Welcome to WMSM 2021 in Yokohama, Japan

Konnichiwa from Yokohama, Japan. I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe amidst the COVID pandemic. The 22nd World Meeting on Sexual Medicine (WMSM) which was originally scheduled for 16-19 September 2020 has been postponed to 19-21 November 2021, which means the WMSM 2021 (previously WMSM 2020) is the longest WMSM in planning.

With the world of sexual medicine rapidly evolving with greater awareness on human sexuality and the integration of new technologies in healthcare practice, the scientific committee has revised the program accordingly to reflect these advances. New relevant themed sessions such as “Digital technology: Telehealth, eHealth and social media”, “Political correctness and Sociocultural sensitivity”, “Regenerative and cutting-edge technology- Myths or real deals” and “Sexuality, gender identity and pleasure tools- the new norm” have been added to the scientific program. The workshops have been amalgamated into 2 main concurrent practical streams namely the “Prosthetics urology- The ISSM global prosthetic outreach course”, and “Female sexual dysfunction workshop- Everything you need to know”. Last but not least, WMSM 2021 introduces a first “Best-of-best: Award winners and breaking news” session to highlight scientific progress made by previous ISSM award-winning abstracts and the best JSM paper in the past 12 months.

The theme of WMSM 2021 “The Future of Sexual Health- Science, Technology and Happiness in Human Sexuality” remains more relevant than ever in the current environment. While we cannot meet in person, I look forward to welcoming you all to the land of the rising sun and hope you will still have plenty of opportunity to exchange knowledge and build long-lasting memory during this virtual meeting.

On behalf of Local Scientific Chair, Yoshikazu Sato and Honorary Scientific Chair, Luca Incrocci.
