I would like to welcome all of you on behalf of The Japan Society for Sexual Medicine. The World Meeting on Sexual Medicine, in conjunction with the Asia Pacific Society for Sexual Medicine, will be held in Yokohama from September 16th to 19th 2020. In Japan, Prof. Shirai established the Japan Society for Impotence Research in 1978 followed by the Asia Pacific Society for Impotence Research in 1987, continuing of a long history in sexual medicine research. Currently, The Japan Society for Sexual Medicine has 900 members and 200 sexual medicine specialists.
I am very honored that the World Meeting on Sexual Medicine will be held in Japan.
This year, the Olympics and Paralympics will be held from July 24 to September 6 in Tokyo, bringing a new level of enthusiasm all throughout Japan. I hope to carry on that excitement into the World Meeting on Sexual Medicine that takes place immediately afterwards.
This year’s venue, Yokohama, is a major commercial hub in the Tokyo area. Located south of Tokyo, Yokohama is the capital city of Kanagawa Prefecture and the second largest city in Japan. The event will be held at Pacifico Yokohama, a scenic location facing Tokyo Bay.
In Japan, a declining birthrate, an aging population, reproductive medicine, quality of life for the elderly, disabled, cancer survivors, and female sexual function have become important topics of discussion. I aim to work on the development of sexual medicine using advanced medical technologies in order to address these issues.
The temperature starts to cool in September, making it perfect for sightseeing. My hope is that many people can participate this year.
